Ullman Sails

Endurance Series

Endurance Series sails are among Ullman’s most durable cruising products, developed for offshore and passage-making use. Reinforced high-load areas and material choices focused on longevity support dependable long-distance sailing.

Endurance Series

Performance and Handling

Endurance Series sails shown under offshore load
  1. Custom Offshore Design

Each sail is designed for the individual yacht, sailing plans and budget, with balanced performance and straightforward handling as core priorities.

  2. Reefing Endurance

Mainsails include additional reinforcement in high-load reefing areas for extended periods of reduced sail area.

  3. Roller-Reefing Headsails

Roller-reefing genoas receive added strength at the head and tack to help limit distortion and support longevity.

  4. Shape-Holding Cloth Choices

Enduro Dacron prioritizes durability, while taffeta-coated Enduro Laminate provides a lighter, lower-stretch option for performance-minded cruisers.

  5. Material matched to the project

The local loft selects cloth, construction and finishing to match the yacht, expected mileage, handling systems and cruising goals.

Endurance Series

Reliable by Design

Endurance is Ullman’s durability-focused offshore and passage-making range. Custom design, reinforced load areas and suitable cloth selection are combined for the yacht and cruising program.

Endurance Series

Durability and Reinforcement

Endurance sails are reinforced for offshore and passage-making use, with particular attention to reefing loads, roller-reefing headsails and seam construction.

Load Reinforcement

Extra reinforcement is added in high-load mainsail reefing areas for the sustained loads associated with extended reefing.

Furling Durability

Roller-reefing genoas receive added reinforcement at the head and tack to help limit distortion and improve longevity.

Multiple Triple-Step Stitching

The official Endurance brochure specifies multiple rows of triple-step stitching on each seam as part of its durability-led construction.

Project-specific Protection

UV protection, thread, hardware and handling details are selected for the boat and sailing area. GORE® TENARA® may be discussed where extended seam life is a priority.

Custom Specification

Endurance sails share this verified profile; the final specification varies by yacht and sail:

Endurance sail custom specification
  1. Custom design for offshore or passage-making use

  2. Enduro Dacron or taffeta-coated Enduro Laminate

  3. Multiple rows of triple-step stitching on each seam

  4. Additional reinforcement in mainsail reefing areas

  5. Head and tack reinforcement on roller-reefing genoas

  6. Hardware, UV protection and finishing specified per project

Available Options and Upgrades

Endurance sails are custom projects. These are configuration decisions to make with the local Ullman Sails loft.

Enduro Dacron or Enduro Laminate

Choose a durable woven polyester construction or a lighter, lower-stretch, taffeta-coated cruising laminate.

Cross-cut or radial woven construction

The official brochure lists cross-cut and radial options for woven Dacron; suitability depends on the sail and project.

Reefing configuration

Reef layout and reinforcement are determined by the mainsail, expected conditions and the owner’s passage-making plans.

Roller-reefing configuration

Headsail design, reinforcement and UV protection are matched to the furling system and expected use.

GORE® TENARA® thread

Where specified, this ePTFE thread resists UV, saltwater and extreme weather; confirm its use and extent with the loft.

Handling and finishing details

Hardware, battens, slides and finishing are custom choices and should be documented in the individual sail quotation.

GORE® TENARA® Sewing Thread

GORE® TENARA® is an ePTFE sewing thread intended for long-lasting outdoor and marine seams. Its use and extent on an Endurance sail must be confirmed in the individual specification.

Gore states that the thread does not absorb water and maintains its strength under regular exposure to sunlight’s UV rays.

It also resists saltwater, extreme weather, acid rain and many cleaning chemicals, making it relevant where seam life is a priority.

Thread selection does not replace proper sail care or inspection; discuss the appropriate thread and construction with the local loft.
