Ullman Sails

Performance Series

The Performance Series is built for offshore and high-latitude cruising and superyachts. Advanced sail design, precise construction and high-specification materials combine durability with performance in demanding conditions.

Performance Series

Performance and Handling

Performance Series sails shown under load
  1. Custom high-performance design

The shape and structure are designed for the individual yacht using Ullman’s 3D tools and numerical analysis.

  2. UltraLam or Performance FiberPath

Material selection is centered on low stretch, load management and durability for the intended offshore or high-latitude program.

  3. Handling details matched to the yacht

Reefing, furling, luff hardware and finishing are specified around the yacht’s systems and the crew’s operating requirements.

Performance Series

Reliable by Design

The Performance Series combines Ullman’s design process with UltraLam or custom FiberPath constructions for offshore, high-latitude and superyacht applications.

Performance Series

Durability and Reinforcement

Performance sails are custom projects. Durability depends on the selected construction, reinforcement, protection and appropriate operation within the sail’s design limits.

Material-led durability

UltraLam and Performance FiberPath constructions are selected to balance low stretch, load management and durability for demanding cruising.

Custom reinforcement

Fiber density, patches, hardware and finishing are engineered for the individual yacht rather than applied as one universal specification.

Protection and seam choices

UV protection and thread choices, including GORE® TENARA® where specified, are selected for the climate and service requirements.

Custom Specification

The Performance Series has no single universal component list; each sail is engineered for its yacht and use.

Performance Series — standard specifications
  1. Custom design for offshore, high-latitude or superyacht use

  2. UltraLam or Performance FiberPath construction

  3. 3D-designed flying shape and engineered structure

  4. Material and fiber specification matched to expected loads

  5. Reefing and handling details matched to the yacht’s systems

  6. Reinforcement, thread and UV protection documented per project

Performance Series

Available Options and Upgrades

Performance sails are engineered projects. Confirm every material, handling and finishing choice with the local loft.

UltraLam or Performance FiberPath

Select the construction that best matches the yacht’s load case, performance target, durability needs and budget.

Fiber and skin specification

Fiber density, fiber type and protective skins are engineering choices for the individual FiberPath project.

Reefing and handling integration

Reefs, battens, luff systems and furling details are designed around the yacht and crew’s operating plan.

UV and chafe protection

Covers, protective layers and finishing are selected for the expected climate, mileage and handling loads.

GORE® TENARA® thread

Where specified, ePTFE thread provides resistance to UV, saltwater and extreme weather; confirm its use and extent with the loft.

Documented custom specification

Hardware, reinforcement and finishing should be recorded in the project quotation rather than assumed from a generic list.

GORE® TENARA® Sewing Thread

GORE® TENARA® is an ePTFE sewing thread for outdoor and marine applications. Gore states that it resists UV sunlight, saltwater, extreme weather, acid rain and many chemicals.

It does not absorb water and is designed for extended seam life. These material properties make it relevant to demanding cruising projects where seam longevity is a priority.

Its use is not assumed to be standard on every Performance sail. The thread type and the seams on which it is used must be confirmed in the individual project specification.

Engineering for Extreme Environments

01

The Performance Series is intended for demanding programs including offshore, high-latitude and superyacht cruising. Each sail is a custom project: shape, structure, cloth and reinforcement are selected for the yacht’s expected loads, operating area and handling systems.

02

A custom sail cannot remove the risks of extreme-weather sailing. Reefing plans, furling systems, crew procedures, inspection intervals and conservative operating limits remain essential and should be agreed with the yacht’s professional advisers and the local Ullman loft.
